Primarily known as an agricultural community, Escondido has become a new hotbed for shops, restaurants and bars especially located in the downtown areas. In the community of Escondido you will find the San Diego Zoo Safari Park, Elfin Recreational Reserve, Lake Wohlford, golf courses, parks, wineries and breweries.

The community of Escondido is part of the Escondido Union School District and the San Pasqual Union School District. As you can imagine with the population size of Escondido, these districts host 19 elementary, 7 middle, and 7 high schools including Escondido H.S., Orange Glen H.S., San Pasqual H.S., etc.
